Kaua‘i Property Tax Exemption Deadline: September 30, 2025
If you recently completed construction on a new home or purchased a dwelling on Kaua‘i that is now your principal residence, you may qualify for a homeowner property tax exemption. To receive the exemption for the 2026 tax year, you must submit your application by September 30, 2025.
Who Should Apply?
- Homeowners who purchased a Kaua‘i property in the last year and now live in it full-time.
- Owners of newly constructed homes who have moved in and established the property as their principal residence.
Why Apply?
Approved applicants may receive significant savings on their annual property tax bill through Kaua‘i’s Home Exemption program.
Key Requirements
- The property must be your principal residence (occupied at least 271 days per year).
- The deed or conveyance must be recorded with the Bureau of Conveyances by September 30, 2025.
- You must provide proof of residency, such as a Hawai‘i Driver’s License, State ID, or tax return with your Kaua‘i address.
Deadline Reminder
Applications received after September 30, 2025 will not apply until the following tax year (2027).
