Kauai utilities updates

This is for those of you who never read the leaflets that accompany your utility bills:

Department of Water, County of Kauai

I just received notice in my water bill that the Kauai Water Department will be switching from billing you every 2 months to billing you once a  month.  This will be effective as soon as they get the system in sync…so I guess within a couple of months?

Pro: You won’t have to remember if this is the month the water bill comes or not. It will come.

Con:  Your water bill will come every month.  🙂

Kauai Island Utility Cooperative

The electric company will be installing “smart meters” to replace our current, “not so smart” meters :). KIUC will begin installing these new meters beginning in 2012. This will be a 5 year process due to installation and analysis.  The project is estimated at costing $11 million, of which half of the cost ($5.5 million) is being provided for by a grant.

Pro:  They say there will be no additional cost to the member…hmmm.

Con:  Meters will be controlled remotely, thus you can be disconnected with the press of a button.
